Jacob Varner's Hoops Blog is exactly that, a simple blog that I made to share my thoughts on college basketball. I have played with other technologies to build blogs in the past, but I decided to try a new, and much simpler one for this blog. Jekyll allowed me to build a basic template that handles almost everything I needed with a simple blog and then I was even able to host it for free on GitHub pages. Jekyll also allows for Markdown styling which makes it even easier to type up posts as I'm usually short on time during basketball season where school is still going on full steam ahead. Along with building the blog from the ground up, it was another outlet for me to work on getting Search Engine Optimization to work well and play with different styles. I'm also really proud with how the sidebar turned out on this site for both mobile and desktop. I spent about 2-3 months working on the site and if I plan on doing any more work to it, I'll probably add the ability to add images for posts to make them slightly more shareable online.
